IFSL Program Director to Present at 2020 Food Safety Summit:
Food Safety Challenges of a Changing World
As the director of University of Minnesota’s Integrated Food Systems Leadership (IFSL) program and the Food Protection and Defensive Institute, Dr. Jennifer van de Ligt has a close pulse on our ever-essential global food system.
Dr. van de Ligt regularly consults with food producers and manufacturers to help analyze and understand the vulnerabilities of our complex food system. She uses learnings from these interactions as she leads the IFSL mission to prepare future food system leaders so they’re equipped with the knowledge, skills, and leadership mindset needed to achieve a more effective and sustainable food system from private to public, from farm to fork.
Dr. van de Ligt will share her food industry expertise as a presenter at the upcoming virtual and interactive Food Safety Summit taking place Oct. 19-22, 2020. The Food Safety Summit brings together the world's leading authorities to share up-to-date innovations in the food industry to exchange ideas and find solutions for today and planning for tomorrow. The event draws leaders and key stakeholders from government, regulatory, academia, retailers, growers, and other food system professionals.
During Dr. van de Ligt’s session on Wednesday, Oct. 21, she’ll address food safety challenges of a changing world, including:
- Seven food system challenges affecting food safety and explore their interconnection;
- Why we need to adapt our food systems to feed the future sustainably while experiencing shifting environmental pressures, labor challenges, and legislative changes;
- The challenges impacting food safety and how food safety leaders can adopt a systems-thinking mindset to produce safe food for almost 10 billion people by 2050.
