Why IFSL Matters and Who Benefits

There are many complexities in our global food system, and we need leaders who understand the many intricacies in order to break down silos and face the demands ahead.

The vitality of our ever-essential food system will require increased innovation, knowledge, and perseverance from emerging leaders who are up for the challenge of building a path towards a stronger, more resilient food system. This is the mission of the University of Minnesota’s Integrated Food System Leadership (IFSL) program – to grow leaders who are equipped to drive our food system forward.

IFSL is Paving the Way for Better Outcomes

In order to feed nearly 10 billion people by the year 2050, the IFSL program believes in an ‘and’ philosophy, meaning an all-hands-on-deck approach to feed the world. From small, independent, local growers to large, global, agricultural corporations, all production types and technologies across all stakeholders are necessary for collaboration and change to occur.

The IFSL program was developed with the understanding that a holistic, integrated education is needed to bridge traditional food system training and leadership development. Along with course instructors from three colleges at University of Minnesota – CFANS, SPH, CVM – IFSL’s growing group of industry advisors from leading organizations across the food system contribute to the program by providing mentorship, insights, and advice to students.

IFSL program’s cross-disciplinary approach and curriculum paves the way for emerging leaders to grow their careers and think bigger, as they work to create positive impacts on our food system locally, regionally, and globally.

Who Benefits from IFSL?
